The Creative Act
Welcome to ATTUNEMENT, my monthly blog!
Each month we "tune into" a theme related to mindfulness
and explore a creative practice and tune based on this theme!
This month of May we're TUNING INTO the frequency of:
The Creative Act.
I just finished reading Rick Rubin's book A Creative Act: A Way of Being (clearly his book inspired this month's newsletter theme!).
Rubin says this about creativity:
To live as an artist is a way of being in the world. A way of perceiving. A practice of paying attention. Refining our sensitivity to tune in to the more subtle notes. Looking for what draws us in and what pushes us away. Noticing what feeling tones arise and where they lead. (p. 2-3)
By that definition, I interpret "living as an artist" to mean living mindfully--slowing down a bit, paying attention, breathing deeper, engaging your senses, and listening intentionally.
Today's "creative mindfulness practice" (below) is to create something from this mindful, heart-centered place... create as an artist would!
Creative Mindfulness Practice: Creating as an Artist
What will you create today from your heart?
A thank-you email to your child's teacher?
A garden plot in your backyard?
A painting, song, or poem?
A loving interaction with your partner?
A healthy behavior (an outdoor walk, etc)?
This Month’s Tune:
Each month I'll share a tune that resonates with the newsletter theme.
For our May theme of A CREATIVE ACT I've chosen my original song "The Way of Your Heart" because it's all about staying true to yourself and living life as an artist would.
You can stream it on all music platforms, but here's the direct link to listen on Spotify, as well as the video on youTube!
